What does it mean to take up your cross and follow Jesus?
What cross does Jesus want us to bear? What does it look like?
Is sickness a cross?
A counselor friend, helping me through a trying time with an alcoholic family member, told me about his own bout with alcoholism. He said, “if I had known what was on the other side, I would have quit drinking long ago.” Resurrection is on the other side of every cross you bear.
It’s painful to quit drinking, but the joy on the other side is worth it. It’s painful to go through the cross, but the resurrection on the other side is worth it.
Sickness is not a cross.
The cross Jesus expects us to carry is suffering for his name’s sake, not suffering for the sake of suffering. To take up your cross means to follow Jesus, to become His disciple and love and forgive others even when you don’t want you.
Sickness is not a cross you have to bear. We were not meant to endure sickness, so Jesus bore it for us.
Taking up your cross means to do something you don’t want to do for Jesus’ sake.
It makes no sense to forgive. Common sense says they must get what they deserve, but God wants us leaning, not on our own understanding, but leaning on Him. Choosing to forgive means trusting in the Lord with all our heart. Trusting him to make it right, not you. Forgiveness is a decision to do it God’s way, the cross.
Here is the GOOD NEWS!!! Every cross has resurrection on the other side! You have to go through the cross to receive resurrection.
The cross is love.
Pick up your cross today and put someone else’s needs above your own. Love that unlovable spouse, parent, neighbor, sibling, and you will be carrying the Cross with Jesus and HE WILL SEE YOU AND BRING RESURRECTION NOW IN THIS life. Hold on and wait and watch and see. Jesus wants you living the resurrected life now!!
Jesus did not remain on the cross, and God doesn’t want you there as well. He wants you going through the cross all the way to resurrection.
Quit knocking on the door of the cross and step through it. What is God calling you to do for his sake? Do it! New life is on the other side. Quit veering away from the cross because you are afraid of the pain and walk through it. The only way to resurrection is through the cross and sometimes it’s painful and humiliating, but God’s reward is on the other side.
The cross is doing something you don’t like for God’s sake. Try to take up your cross every day. Do something hard and make someone else’s day great. Humble yourself and be like Christ.
"Take Control of Your Mind and Close the Door to those Negative, Depressing, Fearful, Worrisome Thoughts Forever."
Do you struggle with thoughts of shame or guilt, feeling burdened, lost, and overwhelmed? Maybe you believe you are stuck in a pit and can’t get out, and even worse you believe you deserve to be there.
I understand, because I was once there too! I wrote my book “Your Thoughts are Killing You” in order to share this message—God wants the best for you, and He has the means to get you there!
