God Wants to Heal You

By Marybeth Wuenschel

God not only wants to heal you, but it is His will and heart’s desire for you to be whole, well, healed, and thriving. It is always God’s will to heal you. I say this because it is the truth. If God said it in the Bible, then He meant it. He expects you to believe that His Word is true and written just for you. God had you in mind when He wrote Psalm 103: “He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.” God had you in mind when He wrote Psalm 91: “You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings, you will find refuge.”

God wrote that for you, so you could count on Him when the plague or pandemic threatens. God wants to heal everyone reading this. In fact, there is nobody God doesn’t want to heal. He wants to heal you more than you want Him to heal you. You just need to believe it. But, before you can believe it, you have to know it. Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him,

“If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

It is Not the Truth That Sets You Free

It’s not the truth that sets you free, but knowing the truth that sets you–and me–free. Jesus came to Earth to set you free from sin and all the consequences of sin. But, if you have never read about Him or heard of Him, how can you believe Him? If you haven’t read for yourself the many Gospel stories of God’s healing power, then you won’t believe He wants to do the same for you. You have to know it is God’s will to heal you, or you will never receive the gift. You will never have the faith needed to receive the free gift of healing if you doubt God’s desire and will to heal you.

Mark 1:40-41  A leper came to him, and kneeling down, begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.”

Jesus was not speaking only to a man with leprosy; He said this to all of us: “I do will it!” Jesus wants every person to know it is His will to see us healed. Jesus was setting the record straight for all who doubt God’s will to heal.  When Jesus walked on this Earth, He healed everyone who came to Him.

Matthew 8:16-17 When it was evening, they brought Him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a Word and cured all the sick, to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: “He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

Jesus Has No Favorites.

In all of the Gospel readings, He never said “no” to anyone. In the passage above, it says that He healed them “all.” All who were brought to Him or came to Him were healed. If He didn’t say “no” then, He is not saying “no” now.

Matthew 12:15  “When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he cured them all.” Luke 6:17-19   And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured. Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him because power came forth from him and healed them all.

Jesus didn’t heal only the good people. Many who were healed did not deserve to be healed. Don’t let your feeling of unworthiness keep you from receiving the healing that Jesus paid for with His blood. The fact of the matter is, you aren’t worthy, and neither am I. Not one person Jesus ever healed was worthy. We are not worthy of God; God made that clear to us from the beginning. We all need a savior, and it was God’s plan from the beginning of time to save us through Jesus. Jesus’s death, His sacrificial death on the cross, is what saves us. We are not worthy, but we are made worthy. Because of Jesus and because of what He did, we were made worthy. We can’t make ourselves worthy, not if we had a million years to try.

He Healed Them All

A friend of mine, Anthony, and I discussed this. I told him, “The Bible says over and over again that He healed them all, everyone, who came to Him or was brought to Him.” I continued, “They didn’t all deserve to be healed.” Anthony responded, “Marybeth, none of them did. Not one of those men or women deserved to be healed.” Anthony is right: If you don’t think you deserve to be healed, join the crowd. You don’t. Jesus doesn’t heal us because we deserve it. He heals because it is His nature to heal us. He simply wants to.

There is not enough time or space to record all the healings and deliverances Jesus did while on this Earth. There certainly isn’t enough space or time to record all those since He went to Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and empower us to heal the sick, cast out demons, cleanse the lepers and raise the dead. Yep, that is what the church is supposed to look like. Jesus said so in Matthew 10:6-8 when He sent out the twelve disciples:

“Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’  Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost, you are to give.”

Wow! Jesus didn’t tell them to build a building, start a school, or create a soup kitchen or program. No. He said, “Go raise the dead, cast out demons, heal the sick and cleanse the lepers. Do the miraculous.” Further, Jesus said,

Mark 16;17-18 “These signs will accompany those who believe; In my name, they will drive out demons and speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

What About Me?

You may be thinking, what about me? If Jesus healed everyone, why not me? If Jesus took away our infirmities and bore our diseases, what about mine? Hang on: that is why I wrote “Be Healed in the Name of Jesus.”  There is something we, the body of Christ, have been missing. I want you to know that there is more.

Oh, there is a lot to learn if you are willing. Jesus took our sicknesses to the cross. When He died, 2000 years ago, we died with Him. When He died, the power of sin over our lives died. When Jesus died, so did “the threat of sickness and disease and sin’s consequences.” This verse from Matthew 8:16-17 references Isaiah 53:4, one of the most important messianic prophecies in the Bible. We’ll talk more about this later, but, for now, believe that Jesus not only took your sins with Him to the cross, but your sicknesses and diseases as well.

God made a decision to heal you when He sent Jesus to die for you, and He hasn’t changed His mind. He still wants to heal you and deliver you from every evil and cleanse you of every sin. Let Him. Jesus already died to heal you. He already took away your sins and sicknesses. So, just accept it. Believe He did this for you.

Mary Healy, associate professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, says this regarding God’s will to heal, “Does he* (referring to Jesus) will to make a man whole, to undo the ravages of the fall? This is what he came for!”  *This is an excerpt from her book “Healing, Bringing the Gift of God’s Mercy to the World.”

Healing is a decision

Yours! God has already made the decision. He has already decided to heal you and forgive you. You and I just have to figure that out.

Your best years are ahead of you and not behind you if you are willing to believe. God is already willing; now, it’s up to you. God has a future for you. If you are ill and have been sick for some time, I want to give you hope. Forget the past, and let’s look to the future. If you are willing to believe in God’s desire to Heal you, you will see a miracle. You just need to believe. Be willing to believe again, hope again, and trust God again.

The Father sent Jesus to forgive all our sins and heal all our diseases, and He hasn’t changed His mind. God isn’t making a decision each time you are sick. He isn’t evaluating you every time you ask. His answer is always the same: “Yes.”
