God Told Me: Never Allow Yourself to Feel Unworthy

When you come to Christ, you have to believe that you are never not in Christ.

That’s what the devil wants you to believe — that somehow you’re outside of Christ. That you haven’t done quite enough. That you’re always falling short. That you’re just not enough.

And you know what? You’re not enough.

You’re never going to be enough.

You can’t be enough. That’s why you need Jesus.

You are saved and made right with God because of Christ. And this is so important for you to know, because if you don’t know that you are saved and right with God, you will always question whether you can receive from Him.

You’ll doubt His love. You’ll doubt His grace.

You’ll doubt His healing.

If you don’t believe that you are saved and safe in Christ, how are you going to believe that you are healed in Christ?

This is why justification and righteousness are so foundational to our Christian faith. If you don’t believe you have been justified — made right with God — then you’re going to have trouble receiving from Him because you won’t have confidence in your relationship with Him.

You Cannot Make Yourself Right With God

Romans 3:20 says:

ROMANS 3:20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. (NLT)

No one can be made right with God by obeying the law.

No one.

Then Romans 3:22-24 tells us how we are made right with God:

ROMANS 3:22-24 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Everyone has sinned. We have all fallen short. But God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight through Christ Jesus.

That’s your foundation.

You are made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ.

Not because you earned it. Not because you behaved well enough. Not because you finally got everything right.

Because of Jesus.

And you have to know this, because when you know you have been justified and made right with God through Jesus, you are free to receive what God has given you.

You Are Standing in Undeserved Privilege

Romans 5:1-2 says that since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.

And then Paul says something I love: Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand.

Undeserved!

That’s grace.

You didn’t deserve it.

He deserved it for you.

You didn’t earn it. You didn’t work for it. And you can’t work for it.

God gave it to you through faith in Christ.

Second Corinthians 5:21 says that Jesus became sin so that we could become righteous.

He didn’t just take your sins.

He made you something.

He made you righteous.

He made you right with God.

Why Do You Need to Know This?

Because the devil will accuse you.

You don’t deserve healing.

Look what you did.

You were rude.

You failed.

God isn’t going to answer you now.

And I’m telling you: you didn’t earn healing by being good.

Jesus earned it for you.

It’s a gift.

This is why you have to know who you are in Christ.

Because what you didn’t earn through your works cannot suddenly be lost because your works aren’t good enough.

And when you fail, don’t stay down there.

Get right back up.

If you believe that every time you sin you are suddenly outside of Christ, distant from God, or disqualified from receiving from Him, you’re going to continually struggle to receive.

You’ll always come back to:

“I don’t deserve it.”

And that’s exactly where the devil wants you.

Abraham Believed God

Romans 4 says Abraham believed in “the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.”

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping. His body was as good as dead, and Sarah’s womb was unable to produce what God had promised.

In the natural, it was impossible.

But Abraham believed in the God of the impossible.

Scripture says:

ROMANS 4:20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise.

And then:

ROMANS 4:21 He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever He promises.

Fully convinced.

That’s where I want you.

Fully convinced that God loves you. Fully convinced that Jesus died for you. Fully convinced that He took your sins. Fully convinced that He made you right with God.

And when you believe that, you’re going to believe He wants to heal you too.

Because now there is nothing standing between you and God.

Your sins are on Jesus.

Never Allow Yourself to Feel Unworthy

And this brings me to something God spoke to me that I have never forgotten.

One day as we were praying, I heard the Lord say:

“Never, ever, ever allow yourself to feel unworthy.”

When that feeling comes, reject it.

Why?

Because Jesus paid too high a price for you to continue calling yourself unworthy.

The blood of Jesus made you worthy.

So how could God continually call you something that Jesus died to change?

God paid the price.

The price was His Son.

And this is where I realized something else.

If I continually believe I’m unworthy, deep down I’m still believing I should be able to make myself worthy.

I’m putting the responsibility back on myself.

I should have done better.

I should have prayed more.

I shouldn’t have done that.

Maybe if I improve myself, then I’ll be worthy.

NO.

You still think there’s a way you can save yourself.

There isn’t.

You can’t make yourself worthy.

That’s the whole point.

Nobody is worthy on their own. We all need Jesus.

And because of Jesus, we have everything.

Stop Trying to Get Worthy

This is what I want you to understand.

When you feel unworthy, don’t start trying to fix yourself so you can come back to God.

Come to God.

Receive His mercy. Receive His grace.

That’s what He wants from you — not for you to make yourself worthy.

Jesus already did something about your unworthiness.

Romans 8:1 says:

ROMANS 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

So don’t let condemnation keep you away from God.

It’s not your ability to prove yourself that brings you to God.

If you could prove yourself, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to come. If you could do enough good works to earn your place with God, Jesus died for nothing.

There was no other way.

That’s why Jesus came.

He became sin to make us right with God.

Come Because Jesus Said You Could

So when I feel particularly unworthy, I know I have to get out of it. I know I cannot stay there.

And this is how I pray:

Father, Jesus said I could come to You for anything, and I’m coming to You because Jesus said I could.

I don’t come in my own name.

I come in His name.

I don’t come to You for what I deserve.

I come for the mercy and grace Jesus won for me at the cross.

I believe Jesus died for me. I believe He took my sin. I believe He made me right with You.

I believe His blood is enough.

And I receive what Jesus won for me.

I don’t receive because I earned it. I receive because Jesus did.

I receive Your love. I receive Your grace. I receive Your mercy.

And I receive Your healing.
