By His Stripes We Are Healed: Why Symptoms Are Lies

By Marybeth Wuenschel

Any symptom and all symptoms are lies.

Period.

I know they're real. They hurt. But they are a lie, because by His stripes we are healed.

Only one thing can be the truth. Not both.

Either you are healed by the blood of Jesus, or you're not. That's your issue.

Symptoms Are Facts, but They Are Not the Truth

Let me be clear. I'm not saying the symptoms aren't real. I'm not saying something isn't causing them. I'm not saying the pain isn't real.

It's real. You have an enemy, and it is a real enemy.

The facts are, it's there.

But it's not the truth.

The truth is by His stripes you are healed. The truth is not "you have to live with this symptom."

A symptom is the devil's way of trying to convince you to believe in him. To believe you have no choice but to accept it.

And this is how we've been trained: Oh, I'm sick. I'm just stuck with it.

No, you're not. You don't have to be. You can respond. You can believe something else.

When a symptom attacks you, especially in the middle of the night, it always comes with fear. That's how you know it's from the devil. It comes to terrorize you, harass you, and deceive you into believing you have to bow to it.

Your job is to have faith in the Word of God.

Don't believe in the lesser one. Believe in the greater one.

Number One: Believe By His Stripes We Are Healed

You have to have this established in your heart once and for all: Jesus took your infirmities and bore your diseases. By His stripes you are healed.

That was His decision. He made this ultimate sacrifice to bring you freedom, deliverance, healing and salvation all in one. He brought you all of it.

If you doubt this truth, you will never be able to fight against symptoms because the devil will always talk you out of it. Your thoughts will talk you out of it. Your memories will talk you out of it. Your reasoning will talk you out of it. What happened to your mother, what happened to your grandfather, other people's experiences, testimonies against healing, they will all talk you out of it.

To doubt that by His stripes you are healed is to doubt the cross.

I know you're not doubting that Jesus went to the cross. But you're doubting He did it for you.

And when you receive the symptom, you're rejecting the healer.

Does By His Stripes Mean Physical Healing?

Yes.

When you choose Christ, you are spiritually made new. You become a brand new creation. You're not healed spiritually, you are made new.

So when Isaiah and First Peter say by His stripes you are healed, they're not talking about being spiritually healed. They're talking about physical healing.

And the Holy Spirit Himself confirms it. In Matthew 8, the Holy Spirit quotes Isaiah 53:4 this way: He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.

By His stripes means physical healing, mental healing, emotional healing, inner healing.

Get that established in your heart, so the devil can never talk you out of it.

It Comes Down to His Love for You

In John 10:10, Jesus said the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, but He came that you may have life and have it abundantly. Have it to its fullest.

God wants you to enjoy a full life, free from sickness and disease. It's the enemy who comes to steal your health, your joy, your peace and your faith.

JOHN 10:17-18 The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. (NLT)

Nobody had the power to kill Jesus. He died for you because He loves you.

When that symptom comes in the middle of the night, it's going to try to convince you that God doesn't love you. That He's left you. That you're on your own.

So establish it and re-establish it every single day, by reading His Word, that He loves you, that He died for you, and that He took your infirmities and bore your diseases.

Whether you're good or bad, in good times and in bad, God's love never changes toward you.

When Jesus said, "It is finished," it means it's finished. He's already chosen you. Now you've got to receive what He gave you.

And if a symptom still makes you afraid even though you believe all this, it just caught you off guard. You forgot who you are. That's all.

You don't have to stay afraid. Take your eyes off the pain. Remind yourself who you are and to whom you belong.

Don't Surrender, Fight Back, Speak It Out

So number one, believe. Then:

Number Two: Don't Surrender to the Symptom

When terror strikes, when a symptom strikes, it wants you to surrender to it. Submit to it. Bow to it. Be overwhelmed by it. It wants to be lord over you.

Do not surrender.

It's a thief trying to steal your peace and your health.

No matter how scary it is, no matter how threatening, no matter what the pain or the fever or the congestion, you will not surrender and be in fear.

Number Three: Fight Back

Don't just roll over and play dead. Stand your ground and respond.

The best thing you can do is respond with the Word of God.

If you don't have a scripture memorized and it's late at night and dark, respond with faith. Respond with joy. Respond with laughter, with praise, with a song. Pray in tongues.

Always have a song in your heart. Just a chorus. Have it memorized. The devil hates to hear you sing.

Respond the opposite of what the devil wants. Not in fear. Not desperate. Not crying. Not complaining.

Number Four: Speak It Out Loud

By His stripes, I am healed.

Followed by a smile.

Praise Him for who He is. Thank Him for the healing. Have the Word memorized and ready on your lips.

Scriptures for When Fear Strikes

ISAIAH 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

JOSHUA 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

PSALM 118:6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

2 CHRONICLES 32:7-8 Be strong and courageous! Don't be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles for us! (NLT)

That was Hezekiah speaking to his people while the king of Assyria had Jerusalem surrounded, boasting that no kingdom had ever survived him.

Don't be discouraged because of cancer. There is a power far greater on your side.

If you're in fear, you just forgot who you are, how strong your God is, and that He's on your side.

"Oh, It's Just You"

I was 29 years old. I had just given my life to the Lord and been baptized in the Holy Spirit. I was on fire, a brand new baby Christian.

And all of a sudden I was overwhelmed by fear and terrorizing memories of my past.

I said, "God, why am I still battling this? If You're not going to do this for me..." And I was just about to say, "then I'm done with You."

And God moved the veil so I could see the devil in my room. A swirling black mass from the floor to the ceiling. I will never forget it.

The second I saw it, I burst out with joy. No, Lord, forgive me. I love You. I will not turn away from You.

Because I recognized it was just the enemy.

The enemy wants you to think God doesn't love you. He wants you to think God is putting these symptoms on you. He wants you to blame God.

The second I recognized him, poof, he went away. He never came into my bedroom again.

So every time a symptom shows up, recognize it and smile:

Oh, it's just you. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

And start laughing.

That's what you're saying to the devil: You can't deceive me anymore.

Common questions

Are symptoms real if they are lies?

Yes, they're real, and the pain is real. They are facts, but they are not the truth. The truth is by His stripes you are healed.

What should I do when a symptom comes in the middle of the night?

Believe by His stripes you are healed, don't surrender to fear, fight back with the Word, a song or praise, and speak it out loud: "By His stripes, I am healed."
